Hello!

I’m Debbie

I’m Debbie McCool, I am a qualified counsellor dedicated to providing compassionate support and guidance to young people and adults who may be facing challenges at this time, perhaps there has been a significant life event, or you want to explore why you are feeling the way you do about certain situations. Whether you prefer in-person sessions at my counselling room, online sessions, or telephone consultations, I create a safe and confidential space for you to explore your emotions and experiences.

I have been fortunate enough to travel many parts of the world and also have experience of living overseas.

I am UK based but also work with clients overseas, predominantly in Dubai and these sessions are carried out online.

FAQs

What type of counselling or therapy services do you offer?
  1. I am an Integrative Counsellor. I work using different theoretical approaches combining elements of Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis and Psychodynamic Therapy.
How many sessions do people see you for? Is it open ended or is there a recommended number of sessions?

  1. The sessions are open ended, with a recommendation of 8 initially to give us the chance to get to know each other, build the therapeutic relationship and work on the issues raised.
What happens in the first session - is this a discovery session?

In the first session, we will look at what the goals are for your therapy, ways of working and getting to know each other. It’s also where I go through the admin side like our contract and get the paperwork signed and take personal details such as address, GP details, previous therapies etc.

What do you mean by a ‘contract’

A contract will contain your personal information also information  such as eating, exercise, sleep patterns, past trauma. This is of course confidential and used only for the purposes of our therapy sessions.

Do you give any 'exercises' for people to do?

Sometimes, it depends on what’s needed. Maybe some CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) based work or breathing/grounding exercises.

Do you see children on their own or with an adult?

I would ideally see them on their own, but would always try and include parents for the initial session. It depends on the children’s age and circumstances and this is something that can be discussed over what would work best.

What age range for children do you see?

I see children from 11 years up.

How long are your sessions?

Each session is 50 minutes

How many sessions do I see you for?

There are flexible options for how many sessions you book in advance. A payment secures your therapy session and a block booking secures your weekly slots for a longer time.

What happens if a session needs to be rescheduled?

At the end of each session, I try and agree the date for our next session, but this can be done via email or this website.
